The amount needed to maintain clarity and good water quality depends on the number of fish or plants, the seepage rate, seasonal temperature, and many other factors.

These guidelines are for routine maintenance to keep the bioactivity balance within the aquatic system. For remediating problems, a larger amount can be added initially to clarify and remediate before the aquatic population is added.
